We all have set points.
Not just in our weight or energy, but in how much joy, chaos, connection, and stillness we allow.
For years, I believed my set points were simply my personality. I thought I was someone who couldn’t relax unless everything was perfect, someone who didn’t like too much attention, someone who was always on edge when out walking with my dog.
But I’m starting to notice that these were simply rehearsed frequencies. Familiar emotional defaults I’d mistaken for truth.
Lately, I’ve felt those set points shifting.
What used to feel like ‘normal stress’ now feels too much. What used to pass as a ‘manageable level’ of urgency now feels like something to opt out of. What used to be acceptable levels of discomfort in my body, my schedule, my relationships… are no longer a fit.
Even with Berkley, I can feel my set point changing. I used to keep him tightly tethered, reactive to every possible trigger. Now, I’m cautiously curious. We test the edges of freedom together. There’s softness where there used to be fear. Trust where there used to be reactivity.
It’s not about a dramatic reinvention. It’s about noticing when the old calibration no longer feels like home.
