Time to decompress
As a dog owner I read a long time ago about the need for them to have decompression walks at least once a week. Usually, living in the town I take our boy Berkley for a 20-30 minute morning walk around a few streets - more than enough for him as he is so nervous of the big wide world.
This morning though I felt like something different. I had a few work things on my mind and could feel the inner talk start to get off the scale. So I sat sipping my cuppa in bed and gave myself some space to think about what would feel better.
The word ‘decompression’ popped into my head. Not sure if Berkley needed it more or just me but I decided to follow my intuition, start work a bit later and go somewhere where we could both decompress.
We have a secure field booked for Sunday but I felt the need to be near nature today so we drove to the allotment. It’ss secure and only the odd cat and fox for Berkley to go crazy over.
Wow, it was so lovely. Only 1 or 2 people there that time of morning and so peaceful. I didnt think about work the whole time I was there, or much else….. except enjoying the walk!
There was just us, the birds singing, the wind blowing through the trees, a tiny bit of drizzly rain (that was so refreshing) and the sound of our footsteps. We even got to watch a few dogs (fairly calmly) in the park next to it for a bit of training.
I came back so refreshed and Berkley looked like he had a great time. I know it might be harder to do when kids are back at school because of the morning rush but I think I will make the most of decompressing a couple of times a week during the summer holidays.
Today it was very much needed and I went on to have a very productive morning!
I do wonder why we feel like we need to race through our days - I am sure the ‘powers that be’ have designed it that way for a reason - let's hope that changes soon!
But until then, I will be looking for small ways to decompress, be more present and simply enjoy life more.
I hope you do to!
